At St. Catherine Preschool, our faith based excellent education has built a home for our community. We believe in a strong foundation with structure to cultivate our littlest learners beyond the heights of academic and spiritual limits. As an accredited preschool, we are a community of life long learners that study and apply the research of education and child development in ways that honor the children we work with. Our Play based child led emergent curriculum truly values the ideas and voices of children. Our skilled and innovative staff provide developmentally appropriate experiences encompassing all areas of learning . Literacy, Math, Science, Social Emotional, Physical, Sensorial & Creative arts .
Enrollment & Hours of Operation
To enter into our Preschool children must be 2 years 8 months of age and fully potty trained. Our Preschool hours are from 7:00-5:00 Monday through Friday. Our after school program runs from 2:30-5:00.
We are licensed with DHS for 60 little learners. Our current enrollment is 51. We have 3 separate Preschool classes . Pre-k 3, Pre-K 4 & Pre-K 5. We have recently lowered our staff/student ratios to below the allotted state average to provide higher quality environments over quantity. Our 3&4 year olds class is a 10-1 staff student ratio, our 4&5 year olds class is 12-1 and our 5 year old kindergarten readiness class is also 12-1.
Highlights about our Program
We are proud to say we have a strong diverse teaching staff that has been working together for 7 solid years, one of them being our schools most veteran staff member who has been the face of St. Catherine Preschool for 30 years! All of our staff contribute their individual gifts and talents to collaboratively elevate our program in many unique ways. We partner with parents as your child's first and foremost teacher and alongside our families to help each child meet their greatest potential.
We embark on a minimum 1 excursion per quarter often exceeding 5 or 6 per school year. A few of our favorites are Kilohana Plantation Train , Wailua Riverboat to Fern Grotto, Kauai Animal Education Center, Nain’a Kai Botanical Gardens, Kealia Fire Station, & Light’s on Rice Parade.
We showcase the talent of our Preschoolers in both our annual Christmas Program and May Day Performance.
Our classrooms are thoughtfully designed to invite inquiry & investigation in a warm nurturing environment. Each room has all fundamental centers of Art, Library, Block Play, Dramatic Play, Science & Literacy. Our Pre K 3 class also includes a sensorial table filled with rotations of things such as rainbow rice, shaving cream, soap and water, sand, and both our Pre -K 4 & 5 classes have listening centers.
We utilize our two separate expansive outdoor environments to their fullest by taking advantage of our amazing year around outdoor weather here in Hawaii . Frequently holding outdoor circle time, story time, art instruction, songs & games. Our outdoor spaces include a Preschool size soccer field, Children’s Garden, Gravel construction pit, sand boxes, swings, slides, water play station, tricycle bike path and lots of open space to run.
